Chloroform, also known as trichloromethane and methyl trichloride, and a chemical compound belonging to the trihalomethane group has the formula CHCl₃. It does not ignite in air unless it forms a mixture with flammable substances. Chloroform is used as a reactant and as a solvent. Chloroform is also an environmental toxin.
